History
Report
The Ann Arbor printing industry has evolved and grown exponentially since the 1890s.
Edwards Brothers was our area's first book printing company.
Many other companies sprang up as the demand for printed books expanded, and folks left Edwards Brothers to start companies of their own.
Cushing-Malloy, Inc. was one of the first book printers on the scene.
The founder of Cushing-Malloy, Bertrand Elmer Cushing worked as vice president for Edwards Brothers until 1948, when he and a co-worker, Jimmy Malloy, left Edwards Brothers and opened the doors to their own printing company.
Printing Services
Report
As a full-service book manufacturer, our printing services include using both offset and digital printing methods.
We also specialize in bringing old, out-of-print books back to print.
Do you want to use a special text paper, cover paper or cover decoration?
Is your book a unique size?
While the options for digital are expanding, offset printing still offers more flexibility.
How many colors does your book use?
If you need only black ink or one or two ink colors, offset printing may be a more cost-effective option.
Digital Printing

Digital printing is an economical option for shorter runs of approx.

This resource is often used for pre-publications, market testing, proofing, and quick replenishment of back orders, short back list runs, etc. and/or because they simply want to produce a small quantity affordably.
Trim sizes and paper selections are slightly more limited than offset printing, but most popular combinations are available.
Here's to another great year, and I look forward to talking to you again about the 2017 issue!

While the techniques to accomplish this have changed with technology, we still offer this specialized service.
Typically, this process begins with a single old book that we take apart, scan to create electronic files, and process to any method / quantity of books needed.
Arrangements can also be made to rebind old books after scanning.
